A Tour of the Messines Ridge Part Thirteen – Wytschaete (Wijtschate) War Memorial

A winter’s day in Wytschaete.  In June 1917 this scene would have been one of utter devastation.

The war memorial in the centre of the village remembers the men and women of Wytschaete, both soldier and civilian, who gave their lives for their country in two World Wars.

A lot of names for one small village, don’t you think?
